My explanation and classification might not match with any others. But it will be able to give you an overall idea about the whole scenario.
As we are learning How to write articles, especially to make money online, there will be a total discussion on each of the details. So bare with me, I will get you through all the details and also share with you some of the secret tips to make things better than ever!
Types of Article
There is always a basic feature for classification. And the basis on which article writing is classified is the purpose of the article. So, according to the purposes of articles, it can be a few types:
- Informative
- How to / instructional
- long-form article
- Listicle
- News article
- first-person narrative
- affiliate marketing article
- descriptions
- Website content
Remember that, all of the types above, might have their variation in the tone of speaking. Like, if you take this article, for example, it is written in an informal tone. Not friendly or humorous, but informal tone. Exam papers, educational items are usually written in the most formal or professional tone.
So, you need to put attention to the selection of the tone for the piece that you are writing.
Another thing, all the classes of articles, are not totally separated. Most of them are related to each other. In a sense, all articles let you know about some of the specific information that they are talking about. So any and all the articles available, are actually informative.
Just like this, you need to get through the actual meaning of the phrases first. Then, you will automatically understand all the information that I am sharing with you.
Informative
Before I tell you about this, let's be clear of one thing. All of the categories are connected to one another. So, it might get a little confusing. But don't worry, it will not be too difficult to understand.
Basically, informative means anything that gives you information. In that sense, all the articles existing in the world are informative.
Because all of them are telling you about something, aren't they?
But in this case, an informative article means the general ones. Like the basic type of article when you want to know the information or the intro to something.
Like, the first part of this series, if you are looking for what is article writing, the results that you see are basically the best examples of informative articles.
Usually, in a fixed sense, informative articles are limited to 1000-1500 or 2000 words. But the word count may vary as per the need of the topic, or the instructions that you get from the client who has given the request to do the work.
How to/Instructional
Just like this article that you are reading right now, any article that solves a question that starts with "how to", is one of this class.
In these types of content, the main goal is to teach people about a specific thing. It might be a process, or a work/tasks, could be anything.
Long form article
This class actually depends on the word count. Not the type or the nature or the intention for writing the article.
Usually, we call an article a long form article, when the word count exceeds 2000 words or reaches 2000-3000 words. Or even more!
There are cases when I have written a single content for more than 7000 words!
Just like I said before, it all depends on the buyer. Whatever the buyer says, either you do it, or you leave the work for someone else. That's how this world works.
...to be continued.
